TNVET Veteran Issue Questions for State Candidates To Answer
The state elections for Tennessee Governor, about half the Senate and all of the House members are getting into full gear for the Nov elections. TNVET will conduct an election exercise that it has not done before. We have built and submitted for review to our 12 veteran member organizations a list of veteran issue questions that we will send to candidates for their response. The questions are straight forward and STRICTLY nonpartisan.
If you are a member of one of the following veteran organizations: AFA, Buffalo Soldiers, Farmer Veterans, AMVETS, Marine Corp League, MOAA, Veteran Coalitions, DAV, VFW, Vietnam Vets, Women Vets or Veteran Service Organizations(VSO) then your leadership within those organizations had the opportunity to review, add or amend the questions TNVET will present to candidates.
The purpose and goal is to inform you of where a prospective state candidate sits on specific veteran issues. By the states own numbers, the 440,000 veterans contribute $33 billion annually to the state economy, which makes us financial powerhouse comparable to any major industry in Tennessee. Yet, many state candidates do not mention veterans or their issues as one of their campaign concerns. While others claim support of veterans, but list little to nothing in specifics. Tennessee continually ranks 38th to 40th in support of veteran needs/issues and recognized as such in a recent legislative veterans caucus meeting in Nashville. So, we will ask about support for specific veteran issues/questions and give you their responses. That will be your score card to help you decide who just giving lip service versus true support.
